The TAUS Partner Foundation Board brings together the largest stakeholders in the sector to accelerate growth and boost the value of global content and communications. With Unbabel joining, the board now has nine corporate members.

Amsterdam, September 2019 - TAUS is delighted to announce that Unbabel joined the TAUS Partner Board. Together with eight of the largest stakeholders in the industry, Unbabel will navigate the TAUS roadmap and assist TAUS in fulfilling its mission to further expand the TAUS Language Data Network and strengthen its position as a source of data for business intelligence and translation automation.

"We’re delighted to be joining the TAUS Partner Board amongst a select group of technology leaders, including Google, Microsoft, and Oracle. We see TAUS both as a strategic thought leader in where translation technology is heading, as well as a powerful network to source and share data and business intelligence," says Maxim Khalilov, Director of Applied AI at Unbabel.

In the past years, TAUS has transitioned from a pure think tank to an organization with a much broader mission of servicing the data and business intelligence needs of the global language industry. The TAUS 2020 program has a strong theme - Powering Language Data - and focuses on the transformation of available language data and building new effective large-scale resources. The objective to expand access to quality language data, data that is tuned to domains or in under-resourced languages across the industry is reflected in the TAUS Data services.

“Having another leader in the field of translation technology and language data acquisition, and at the same time a user of the TAUS Data, join TAUS on a Partner level creates an additional opportunity to accelerate the growth of global content and communications,” says Jaap van der Meer, director of TAUS.

Alon Lavie, VP of Language Technologies at Unbabel explains the motivation for joining the TAUS Partner Board: "Many key Unbabel team members have worked with TAUS on projects throughout Europe over the years, and we’re now collaborating even closer and identifying new directions for leveraging data and AI technologies. Our state-of-the-art AI with human interaction is unique: it’s effectively AI-augmented crowdsourcing that is building understanding across languages. We’re excited to align this more closely with the knowledge and services that TAUS provides."

ABOUT TAUS

TAUS, the language data network, is an independent and neutral industry organization. We develop communities through a program of events and online user groups and by sharing knowledge, metrics, and data that help all stakeholders in the translation industry develop a better service. We provide data services to buyers and providers of language and translation services.

The shared knowledge and data help TAUS members decide on effective localization strategies. The metrics support more efficient processes and the normalization of quality evaluation. The data lead to improved translation automation.

TAUS develops APIs that give members access to services like DQF, the DQF Dashboard and the TAUS Data Market through their own translation platforms and tools. TAUS metrics and data are already built into most of the major translation technologies.
