17 August 2017, Amsterdam – TAUS, the resource center for the global language and translation industries, is coming back to San Jose, California for their 9th Annual Conference on 30-31 October 2017. The Annual Conference is the largest of the TAUS events organized throughout the year and features many exciting sessions like the CEO conversation, the Quantum Leap conversation, and the Game Changers Innovation Contest.
The TAUS Annual Conference 2017 will be held in the Westin San Jose, California. Approximately 140 delegates from all over the world will be attending. These delegates are all decision makers within their companies - a good balance between translation buyers, language service providers, technology providers and with the addition of a few academics and researchers.
The topics discussed at the Annual Conference are all very relevant in the industry today: the quantum leap with Amazon, Google and Microsoft, robots with Gengo, Unbabel, Straker Software and Translated, multimedia localization with SDL, Akorbi and Alexander Waibel, translation boutiques with Alpha, Oliver Marketing and PayPal, dashboards and metrics with Smartling, Tableau Software and TransPerfect, and the long tail of languages with LinkedIn, Adobe and Netflix.
“We’re pleased to have a keynote panel at our Annual Conference with CEO’s in our industry: Rory Cowan of Lionbridge, Adolfo Hernandez of SDL and Aiman Copty of Oracle” says Jaap van der Meer, Director of TAUS. “We will learn how they reinvent the business of translation, and specifically how the buyer-vendor relationships are changing, new value-add is created, quality and success is measured, and what’s left of us (our businesses) when translation truly becomes ubiquitous, a utility invisible to the public.”
The Annual Conference 2017 will also again feature a TAUS Game Changers Innovation Contest. This is a rapid-pace contest where presenters give a six-minute pitch on why their innovation is the most unique and deserving of the prestigious award. Previous winners of this award are Lilt, VideoLocalize, MateCat, Unbabel and more.
“The Annual Conference is not complete without an evening with the TAUS Haus Band and we’re so excited to host this live event for the third time with the help of our sponsor SDL,” says Anne-Maj van der Meer, Events Director at TAUS. “Under the leadership of Paul Mangell the band will be on the stage at the Continental Bar in San Jose to play all your favorite songs. Guest performers can still sign up to join for a song or two!”
The TAUS Annual Conference 2017 is followed by a Quality Evaluation Summit, hosted at eBay on 1 November, focused on all things surrounding translation quality and metrics. We will also have our first Data Summit, hosted at Google on 2 November, which is centered around translation data.
TAUS is a think tank and resource center for the global translation industries. We develop communities through a program of events and online user groups and by sharing knowledge, metrics and data that help all stakeholders in the translation industry develop a better service.
The shared knowledge helps TAUS members decide on effective localization strategies. Shared metrics support more efficient processes and the normalization of quality evaluation. Shared data leads to improved translation automation.
TAUS develops APIs that give members access to services like DQF, the Quality Dashboard and the TAUS Data Cloud through their own translation platforms and tools. TAUS metrics and data are already built into most of the major translation technologies.
