What's Next For TAUS?

TAUS is shifting focus to language data and translation quality, enhancing its offerings in data expertise and EPIC.

This week, we shared that LocWorld will be taking over TAUS Events. If you’ve ever sat in one of our rooms, you’re probably wondering what that means for us.

And, well, we’re not going anywhere.

We’re narrowing our focus to the work that has always been underneath those stage lights — language data and translation quality — and we’re putting everything we’ve got into it.

The events are in good hands. As our founder Jaap van der Meer put it:

“LocWorld is the premier event organizer in our industry, making them the perfect partner to build upon the TAUS Events legacy.”

So, what next for TAUS?

We Were Never Just an Events Company

For a lot of people, TAUS was the conference, the event itself. That’s where you met us, engaged with us, and, we hope, learned something. Our company, our team, has always been passionate about improving and streamlining translations and the localization process. Events were how we brought everyone together to talk about the challenges, the resources (or lack thereof) and to ideate on what the future looks like and how we get there. Events gave us visibility, and it gave you, the industry, a voice and a safe place to share and grow.

Since 2004, TAUS has functioned as a working think tank for translation and technology. We also built DQF to help the industry measure quality. We’ve spent decades collecting, cleaning, and structuring language data for MT and AI engines, benchmarking how those models perform in the real world. And, with EPIC, we’ve turned all that accumulated knowledge into software-as-a-service.

The Problem We’re Here to Solve

AI made translation fast and cheap. It didn’t make it trustworthy.

With content volumes exploding, enterprise teams are stuck choosing between two bad options: pay to review everything (wasting budget on good translations) or review nothing (risking critical errors). Both stem from the same issue: you can’t see what actually needs human eyes.

There is a better way — one you already use every day. Just like your bank scores credit card transactions in real time to flag only high-risk activity, EPIC scores every translated segment instantly. Safe content passes automatically; only risky pieces get routed to linguists.

No blanket review. No blind trust. Just informed, automated control over your content.

Our Focus Now

At TAUS, we have two core offerings:

Data Expertise
01 · Data Expertise

Most organizations sit on years of translation memories, glossaries, and legacy archives that their current AI tools can’t actually digest. We step in to:

  • Clean and structure messy language assets into model-ready data.
  • Run independent benchmarks on MT engines and LLMs using your content, not generic test sets.
  • Build a clear data strategy before you spend money on tooling.

TAUS EPIC
02 · TAUS EPIC

Our engine-agnostic API for Quality Estimation and Automated Post-Editing:

  • Instantly scores translated segments. You choose the route based on the score you set: auto-publish, auto-fix, or send to human post-editors.
  • Scores against your specific brand standards using custom models trained on your glossaries and memories.
  • Plugs straight into the stack you already run — including Phrase, Crowdin, memoQ, Blackbird, Custom.MT and RWS.

We Haven’t Changed

We’re still deeply rooted in this community. You’ll still see us hosting webinars and workshops, popping up on podcasts, publishing research, and having candid conversations. We’ll also be working right alongside LocWorld as TAUS Events takes its next step.

So, if any of these sound like a conversation happening inside your team today, reach out:

“Our translation memories are a mess and our LLMs are hallucinating.”
“We don’t know which translation engine or LLM actually performs best for our domain.”
“We can’t keep up with our review queue without blowing the budget.”
“Generic quality scores don’t work for us.”
