Anne-Maj van der Meer

Anne-Maj has been with TAUS since 2007 and transformed from bookkeeper and accounts receivable into Director of Events and Member Services. She is also managing and editing content for the TAUS website as well as designer of TAUS reports and leaflets. She has studied English Language and Literature at the University of Amsterdam and Creative Writing at Harvard University.
In April 2016, TAUS returned  to China after a couple of years absence. Being back in Beijing opened new perspectives on translation in China that many of us had perhaps not expected. China typically copies what others have already built and done before them. Fast trains are modeled to the TGV in France, electric cars are inspired by Tesla, and fashion in China closely follows the trends around the world. We are one step closer to the TAUS Game Changers Innovation Contest, taking place at the TAUS Annual Conference on October 24 and 25 in Portland, OR. We’ve received many interesting proposals and together with the Program Committee we’ve come to a final selection of twenty to present next month. On the 12th and 13th October we held our TAUS Annual Conference in San Jose, California. A record number of people attended - 135 - and we introduced a (perhaps) new tradition of TAUS Haus musicians. The theme of this year’s conference was innovation. In order to progress our industry we need innovators. Not just from inside our industry (we call them insiders), but also from outside of the translation industry (the invaders). So on the program this year was a true Innovation Contest.
